Fayetteville is in the sandhills of North Carolina on the Cape Fear River. Fayetteville is considered the unofficial home of the U.S. Army and has a strong military history. The city is best known as the home of Fort Bragg, a major U.S. Army Installation. Fayetteville is home to a plethora of sports teams, including the Fayetteville Marksmen Hockey Team, Fayetteville SwampDogs Collegiate Summer Hockey team, auto racing, Cape Fear Heroes Indoor Football, and more. Fayetteville has received the All-America City Award three times from the National Civic League.
